Everywhere you look these days, you see people and companies talking about “going green.” It’s great that we’re all trying to find ways to use lest energy and conserve our resources and planet. The best way to have a big impact is by replacing everyday items with more eco-friendly alternatives. Surprisingly, that one technological gadget that we all can’t leave home without anyomore, the cell phone, is an area where you can be environmentally friendly. A study published in 2005 estimated that Americans replaced over 100 million cell phones in the previous year. All of those phones that got replaced had to go somewhere, right? Although some were kept by consumers to use in case their new phone broke or was lost and some were recycled, the vast majority were simply thrown away in the trash. Like most garbage, they now sit in landfills. This is not good for our environment as cell phones contain a number of harmful chemicals (e.g. in the battery) that can seep in to our soil and ground water over time. Alternatively, some cell phones that were thrown away may have been incinerated, meaning those toxic chemicals were released into the atmosphere. Also not good.
So how can we be more “green” with our cell phones? The answer is the same as it is with all other textile products: Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle.
Reduce: It’s tempting to continually upgrade your cell phone as manufacturers continue to release new phones with more features. This leads to many of us replacing our old phones before they are antiquated and useless. Further, keeping up with the ever-evolving trends gets expensive as a newer “latest and greatest” phone is released seemingly every month. People that do keep up generate a lot of waste in the form of phones that are slighly used, yet perfectly functional and capable of being used for several more years. Again, most of these phones are thrown away, where they create the environmental concerns mentioned above. You can do your part by reducing your “cell phone turnover” – the frequency that you purchase new phones. Instead of replacing your phone every 6 months, shoot for every 12 or 18 months. Chances are you won’t be able to tell much difference, and you’ll save some money while helping our environment.
Reuse: There is a huge market out there for used cell phones that most people don’t consider when they need to replace an old phone. Even the “latest and greatest” phones can be found in used or refurbished condition. The additional benefit of purchasing used cell phones is that they are cheaper. Buying used and refurbished phones keeps one more phone from our landfills and incinerators, which helps to lessen the environmental impact that these handy devices have.
Recycle: Finally, when you do replace your current phone (hopefully with a used cell phone), take the necessary steps to ensure that your old phone doesn’t end up in a landfill or incinerator. There are numerous places in every city where you can drop off old phones for recycling and some online services will even mail you a prepaid envelope to send your phone to a recycling center.
The adage of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” is true for cell phones as well. We can all help make a difference by following these simple steps when shopping for and replacing cell phones. Next time you need a new phone, take a look in the refurbished and used cell phone market – you’ll be surprised what you find in both selection and savings. Last but not least, don’t forget to recycle your old phone!

It seems that lately, anything involved with 3G Cell Phones today is a place where innovation is king and creativity is always flourishing. Take for example this new product made by Taiwanese researchers in which a mobile phone is charged by nothing more than water and in as little as two hours. As inventive as this is it is not the first time we seen something like this. Between competitiveness in the cell phone and general technology markets as well as a widening green market, expect these types of ideas to continue and hopefully become the norm before too long.
The green movement with 3G Cell Phones and in general is exactly why this device came about. Taiwan wants to become a leader in the green technologies market and in order to do so these are exactly the kinds of products they will need. Not simply innovative green ideas but ones that can play a role in the popular technologies of today. The scientists at the Industrial Technology Research Institute say that their “electricity ball” releases hydrogen after charging water into it, and thus it is able to power a handset without wires. Because the small nation imports the majority of its energy and is being pressured to make cuts in energy and find new energy-efficient tools and constructs.
If that is what they need then that is what they will get. The researchers are clearly working hard right now and are definitely onto something if water can in fact begin charging our electronics. This would change the industry completely, our lives to an extent too, if this could happen. Unfortunately the author has no way of knowing how far along this project is, whether it is in a production stage for the Taiwanese to use or if it still in a research phases, years away from the public. What we can say though, is that it is great to see such efforts and that even if nothing comes out of this the cell phone industry is clearly looking towards greener pastures, pun intended, and it is only a matter of time before something like this comes about.
So we must commend Taiwan on trying to change its ways and hope that other countries, the United States of America obviously included, will not only be innovative but innovative with a purpose to keep our planet safe. For if we destroy our planet while attempting to make progress, whether or not we can see it, we will only be moving backwards.

Over decades together, the depletion of ozone layer and its preservation had been the high priority of environmentalists and developed nations and campaigns about educating the masses of the importance of reducing carbon emissions thereby helping the preservation of the ozone layer. Now, there are a lot more issues along with this that has been worrying the environmentalists, one of this being depletion of natural resources and increase in CO2 emissions, pollution, wastage of resources, and so on. With the expected world’s population to explode to around 9 billion by 2050, it has become a great concern that people will only have 25% of the resources that were available in 1950. Already, some of the world’s natural resources have been depleted and with this growing population, it could lead to a major crisis of the natural resources.
It is high time we start saving clean air, fuel sources, water and soil for the future generations along with saving money and assets for them. How many of us agree with this thought? So why throw away things that could be recycled? To read these facts on recycling, it only takes a few seconds and to actually put it in practice would only take a few minutes in a day.
Climate change is in the news. It seems like everyone’s “going green.” We’re glad you want to take action, too. Luckily, many of the steps we can take to stop climate change can make our lives better. Our grandchildren-and their children-will thank us for living more sustainably. Let’s start now.
Government and other officials should spring forward in their efforts to look for ways to expand recycling and bring awareness amongst the masses on waste reduction and its harmful effects. It would be best to encourage and motivate manufacturers and companies to be environmentally compliant and energy efficient.
So what’s the wait for. There are a lot of things that we as a common man can bring changes and reforms. Let’s GO GREEN, let’s get hand in hand, strive to reduce emissions and wastage, encourage recycling and pave way for pure and clean surroundings for our future generations.
we have to save earth and go green. There are various factors that affect the earth atmoshpere and making it polluted. one of them is electronics.
Keep electronics out of the trash.
* Keep your cell phones, computers, and other electronics as long as possible.
* Donate or recycle them responsibly when the time comes. E-waste contains mercury and other toxics and is a growing environmental problem.
* Recycle your cell phone.
* government to set up an electronics recycling and hazardous waste collection event.
Try to recycle items that could be recycled so in order to save energy, water and natural resources. Things like batteries and electronic items when thrown away emit dangerous chemicals that leak through the landfill and pollute the groundwater, and also contaminate the soil which is important for our crops which in turn causes health risks to humans.
So what’s the wait for. There are a lot of things that we as a common man can bring changes and reforms. Let’s GO GREEN, let’s get hand in hand, strive to reduce emissions and wastage, encourage recycling and pave way for pure and clean surroundings for our future generations.
Go Green, Get Green, we pay to dollar for your used Gadgets, we provide an easy, fast, and safe way for you to sell electronics and recycle electronics. When you used cell phones and electronics, digital camera sell, cell phone sell, sell video game, mp3 players, laptops, or other gadgets to us, you’ll earn cash and help save the environment.

Our world today is more conscious of things like the environment and our impact on it: our carbon footprint. Companies have taken note of this change in our beliefs and actions, trying to appeal to these new conscious thoughts. For example, Motorola Cell Phones who are distributed via Verizon Cell Phones, have come out with a new eco-friendly phone. Motorola Cell Phones new W233 is that phone.
The new W233 by Motorola Cell Phones is a device made entirely of recycled plastic bottles. This is sure to rub hippies and green thinkers the right way. But the company who is distributed through Verizon cell phones has gone a step further. They plan to offset the carbon dioxide used in manufacturing, distributing and operating the phones by placing large investments in renewable energy sources and reforestation. While they don’t detail amounts or where the investments will be placed the idea alone sounds mildly revolutionary.
The idea to make a phone out of recycled plastic bottles is just all right in and of itself. But to have the understanding that it takes more than just recycled bottles is great for such a large company. I am of course talking about the offsetting of their carbon production. It seems so fake to just make a product from recycled materials and make the company out to be heroes. But when it is understood that a lot more goes into than the product itself, that the energy that goes into getting that product to the people is a problem alone, that shows real wisdom.
Yes Motorola cell phones seems to be going the extra mile to feel green. And if you wanted to be taken seriously through green eyes then you the extra miles is just about the only way to go about. Not only is it a smart marketing scheme to crack into a new niche or demographic but it actually does benefit the world. Even those who are not buying the phone benefit and that’s the beauty.
See when someone buys product A or product B but I don’t I still have to live with what it took to get those products to that person. But Motorola Cell Phones, available from Verizon Cell Phones, has made it so everybody. And yes, they win too, but that’s ok. After all they are a company and they deserve a share of the earnings, it’s the fact that they thought about everyone else that makes the difference.

As with all technologies, there is a push from handset developers to constantly bring to market innovative new designs that will greatly appeal to consumers.
Finnish handset giant Nokia introduced a concept device they dubbed “The Morph.” The Morph, still very much a concept device with no intended plans to manufacture or release, takes mobile smartphone devices miles beyond what is currently available on the market today. The Morph would take advantage of nanotechnology to incorporate a wide variety of uses into one device; from the standard features of voice, and data to the more whimsical features of being able to analyze the air quality and possible contaminants on the food you are about to eat. The Morph would not just be a unique device capable of a large variety of functions; it would also serve as a unique and stylish accessory. The Morph’s design would make it capable of being physically manipulated to change its form factor. It could be stretched out into a device with a full sized QWERTY keyboard, making it easier to communicate. It could be folded up into the size of a credit card for easy storage; and it could even be folded to be worn on your wrist as a watch. As already mentioned, this device is very much a concept phone. Nokia, currently, has no plans in the works to develop this concept into a viable marketable device. However, several of the features discussed in the concept will be slowly incorporated into devices that will be developed over the next few years.
Other handset developers, like NEC and BenQ have released information about their own pliable concept phones; their concepts do not incorporate all of the same technology the Nokia Morph has, but they’re still very interesting designs.
With the release of the Apple iPhone several other handset developers have followed with their own touch screen smart phones capable of providing users with the same features and technology they’d expect from the popular iPhone. With upcoming handset releases users can expect to see more touch screen technology integrated along with the continued ability to use mobile phones for more than just phone calls. As more functionality is incorporated into the devices, users can expect to see dramatic changes in the designs of the phones; larger screens, fold out keyboards, and a move towards handsets without buttons.
As consumers feel the urge to “Go Green”, mobile phone developers are going to take this into account and start changing the way they build their handsets. The elimination of toxic components is the first start towards going green with the inclusion of more recycled components into the handsets. The plastic casing of mobile phones can be made, in large part, from recycled and renewable materials. Developers are also going to start to make the move towards increasing the battery life of phones while developing phones that use less energy to gain a full charge. Nokia has already built into their phones an alert that will let users know when their phone is fully charged, urging them to disconnect their phones.
There are so many directions the mobile phone industry can take us in it is hard to pinpoint exactly where the technology is going to take us. However, what is certain is that the future of mobile phone technology is a bright one full of possibilities as innovative handset makers and wireless carriers take steps to not only make our lives easier with better communication devices, but take the steps needed to ensure the technologies keep up with our demands.
